    I'm open to correction here, but I think the 28 days minimum, includes 10 days statutory bank holidays. So the true annual leave figure may be 18 days.

    From 1 April 2009 the statutory holiday entitlement will increase to 5.6 weeks (28 days if you work a five day week).
    It is up to your employer to decide if bank holidays are included in this statutory minimum.

    No, as far as I recall -
    Employers are not allowed to include bank holidays within the 20 days they 'give'. So what might happen is an employer wll now say you have 12 days a year PLUS Bank Holidays?

    The basics of holiday rights
    There is a minimum right to paid holiday, but your employer may offer more than this. The main things you should know about holiday rights are:

    Its up to your employer if they include the bank holidays.
    You would still be getting 28 days holiday if they do include bank holiday as part of it.

    Isn't this usually when someone comes in and says something like
    28 days a year? Gosh I couldn't manage with that, that's a pathetic amount of time to have off. I get 59 days off a year. I suspect it's because I earn more money and therefore are more important than you. I also drive a lovely car, I bet you use public transport don't you. Frankly I'm shocked anyone can manage on your salary and holiday entitlement, I'm great

    :eek:I get 32 days plus bank holidays - and I'm not even a teacher. Noone else should get as many holidays as me - they're mine I tell you - all mine. Wahahahaha..

    On the subject of Bank holidays what is the trading law for shops on Boxing day.My local Asda and Morrisons are shut on Boxing day but plenty of others open.

    6 hrs I think in England and Wales, possibly different in Scotland. (not sure about N. Ireland)

    I used to have Sundays and Mondays off as opposed to Sat/Sun. I used to lose out big style compared to people working Mon-Fri. Most bank holidays are Mondays and as Monday was my day off I used to lose out on many days holiday each year.

    That does not sound fair, if Monday was your set day off then you was not having any extra days.

    I'd scrap Bank Holidays all together and just let people decide when THEY want time off.
    They're wasted days really. The joy of using an annual leave day is that you can do what you like, wake up at 9am, indulge in an hour of daytime TV, even though you don't really like it the guilty pleasure takes over, potter down the the shops, get a paper and a spot of food and then come back and do yourself something nice to eat. Later on have a drive or a walk into town see what's around, get that new jacket you've been meaning to get for weeks now. Then perhaps meet up with an old friend in a pub of an afternoon, or go for a stroll along the beach with the dog and your loved one.
    But no a bank holiday and it's full of idiots who think that because they have a day off work they think it's acceptable for them to be let out into the community. Traffic jams, noise, kids everywhere, queues and nowhere is open.
    I hate bank holidays for what they are.

    I used to have Sundays and Mondays off as opposed to Sat/Sun. I used to lose out big style compared to people working Mon-Fri. Most bank holidays are Mondays and as Monday was my day off I used to lose out on many days holiday each year.
    We used to adjust the working week so if someone worked on a BH they would only work a further 3 days that week.
    then the Annual leave card i was given today is wrong i don't think my company knows

    Are you sure, it may have been adjusted with the accrual from April check it out with them tomorrow.

    If your day off was Monday, but your contractual hours were Tues / Sat, then you've done more hours than your colleagues for that week.

    No, as far as I recall -
